So you might be thinking that “Thinking Outside The Box” should come natural for a Media Minister. While in most cases it should and does let me explain why sometimes it does not.
It was a normal day at Grandview United Methodist Church in Grandview Missouri in which I was running around the church helping with different aspects of ministry operations when my father who at the time was the senior pastor tasked me with helping him to come up with a way to project song words and his message to the people of the church.
You see some members of the church had been International House of Prayer (IHOP) and had see how IHOP had been using multi media during it’s worship services and events and came back after being at IHOP and asked my father and myself if such could be done at Grandview United Methodist Church in Grandview Missouri.
At first my father and I were like yes it can be done, but we soon ran into some challenges. First we realized that we didn’t want to cover up the back wall of the platform area of the church in which the wall had stain glass on it. So we go to thinking about how we could project song words and my father’s message to the people of the church.
What did we do you you might be asking, while we first realize that we might not be able to use a traditional projector and would have to use a special one or even use a special lens. The reason for this was because the side wall of the Grandview United Methodist Church in Grandview Missouri also have stain glass on them. So controlling sunlight was going to become an issue.
Because we would lean that the price of using a special lens or a special projector was our of our budget options I had to some up with a solution that would work for Grandview United Methodist Church in Grandview Missouri. So yep I had to do some thinking outside the box.
You might be asking what kind of thinking outside the box I had to do. While, I had to figure out a way to project the song words and my father’s message without using a projector. At first this was somewhat of a challenge but then one day after realizing we had been using my personal computer and a scan converter to a RCA box, I realized the solution to my issue was always right in front of me but I was wanting to keep everything in a box and say this is how we have always done it and limit myself to what other options we had.
So how did we solve the issue? I am glad to say that we had people who know how to do construction work because we remove and old room that was off the platform and made the platform bigger. Next we realize we were going to have to make something to set two large 64′ big screen tv’s on. Yep, that’s right folks I decided to go with big screen tv’s in order to project the song words and the message. So the construction team did all the work to get the area ready for the tv’s.
I am thankful that I didn’t limit myself to only thinking inside the box. Why? Which here is the cool part after all the cables and everything that was needed to get the image form the computer to the tv’s was in place and we started using the tv’s to project songs and other multi media I had a older lady come up to me after one service and tell me that for the first time her husband who was legally blind could see the song words and sing the songs! Yeah, that truly was God folks and still bless me today.
So my question to all of us who are in Media Ministry is what are we going to do to think outside the box, thus not limiting God?elcome to WordPress. This is your first post. Edit or delete it, then start writing!
